New theatrical project commissions

We want to encourage new work by female-identifying and non-binary creatives. We, therefore, offer a three-tiered commissioning process.

Unwritten Unheard -18

1. Research and development commission

To encourage artists to find their voices and play with new ideas, you can use our rehearsal and studio space for a day. This can be for dancers, actors, directors as well as writers. Want to invite others from the industry? Absolutely. This is a shared space, giving everyone space to create.

2. Shaping the first draft

After a submission process in early 2020, we will choose 5 scripts for a First Draft Commission. Working with the playwrights and makers, we will decide on a timeline from 3 to 6 months to produce a first draft. This will include studio time, desk space at the office, and feedback sessions with our producing team.

At the end of the period we will share the work with the 45North team, and any other creatives you wish to invite. Following the sharing we will decide if this is a project we will take to production.

3. Providing the full draft

Once we have reviewed the first draft commission we will decide if it is a piece we will move onto final draft and production. We will commission the full draft from you at rates set by the Independent Theatre Council. This will again include studio space, desk space, and feedback from our producing team throughout the process.
